Home Fashions - Can You Keep Up?

Home fashions are forever changing - not just by the year but by the season - winter coming on? Time to change the interior decoration! But its a silly treadmill to get on. You can make a comfortable and stylish home without chasing every home fashion! Instead focus on what really appeals to you from the hot trends and do - just a little of it. Are patterned wallpapers hot this year? Well do one wall not the entire house. Or maybe a movable panel which you can easily remove when you get tired of it.

Also remember professional interior designers are not known for their practicality! Mirrored furniture are this year's must have home fashion accessory. But have you ever noticed just how every speck of dust and finger mark shows on a mirror ..

The other thing is that you don't necessarily have to spend a fortune to get the designer look. Just as the High street shops copy Paris's haut couture - big name cheap retailers copy the latest design trends - often not in such great quality - for sure - but do you need that particular item to last a lifetime? Will just a few years until your next home fashion makeover do?

Things you didn't know about cellophane

Cellophane, this transparent, noisy and plastic-like material is best known from its use as a cellophane bag. But I found out some interesting facts about cello, I would like to share with you:

  • Cellophane is a kind of 'organic plasic', it is made of cellulose (hence the name) which in turn is made from cotton, wood and other natural, re-growing materials. This makes cellophane especially Eco-friendly and biodegradable.
  • Cellophane is a registered trademark of the British company Innovia films, and yes, before we had digital, films were recorded on celluloid – a distant and thicker, relative of cellophane.
  • Cellophane is water repellent, but it lets water vapor and air pass through, this makes it ideal for keeping things like cookies fresh and safe.
  • Cellophane is the preferred wrapping for cigars, as it keeps water away, but lets the cigars breath.
  • Cellophane is available in transparent, colored semi-transparent and with printed images and pattern. It comes in bags and rolls of different sizes and shapes and there is virtually nothing you can't wrap in cellophane.

Glider benches

Glider benches are the ultimate symbol of southern home comfort. Not a lot of movies around that take place in one of the southern states of America and don't feature at least one scene where a wise observer passes the day sitting in his glider bench, contemplating as life goes by his porch with a cool glass of something in his or her hand. Glider benches are different from rocking chairs and benches by virtue of gliding (now there is a surprise!) on their stable base. They don't move nor change their position, they are safe and stable put wherever you set them up, making them a good choice around children and vulnerable adults.

Crib Rail with Gummi Protection

Using a gummi crib rail protection instead of a fabric one has many advantages. Especially being that they are easy to clean (warm, soapy water suffices), blend well into the surroundings and are non-toxic. They might not make a very glamorous baby shower gift, but they do come in handy! Anything else you want to know? Just watch the video:

Indoor Gardening

Indoor Gardening is a hit with people that crave having an own garden but lack the space or balcony to have a “true outdoor garden”. A lot of flowers, plants and even vegetables can be grown also indoors if you follow a few simple steps.

  • Small is beautiful. Consider well what kind of plants and flowers you want to grow indoors. Herbs and mini-tomatoes do very well on your windowsill or similar, but it would be more difficult to grow potatoes or an apple tree inside ;-) Start small and as you progress, get bolder.
  • Choose the location wisely. Indoor gardening is like real estate, it is all about location, location, location. Two important things here are weight and light. The weight of your flower and plant pots and the light they will receive naturally. If you have not enough natural light available you should think to invest in some LED grow lights to give your indoor plants this extra photosynthesis boost.

Summary: Indoor gardening is great fun and can help you to save a few bucks for things like fresh herbs etc. Start small and grow it from there and don't forget to have fun!

Having a budget graduation party at your home

Graduation is an important step in the life of young people and many, if not all, want to mark this stepping stone by celebrating with their family and friends at a graduation party. But times are not rosy and funds are restricted, so what to do to keep this graduation party at the budget?

First and foremost, save money by celebrating at home or at another free place like your parents house, perhaps the church hall, the local park etc. Be creative when it comes to choosing your venue and think out of the box.

Make your own invitations by designing them yourself and printing them either also yourself or at the local print shop. So much more personal and cheaper then bought ones.

Call for a potluck or bring-and-share party. Ask everybody to contribute something. You might be surprised by the ideas and delicious food and drinks people are willing to contribute. If you want to stay safe, ask people beforehand what they plan to bring so that you can fill the holes and look that there is variety.

And last, but not least, make sure you find a few volunteers to help you to set-up everything as well as to clean up after the party. You see it is not difficult to throw a graduation party at a budget, as long as you plan a little bit ahead and be creative.

How do Christian business?

Do Christians do business different from peoples of other faiths- or none? What distinguishes a Christian Business Opportunity from others, if anything? And no, I am not referring to businesses that operate exclusively amongst Christians, or, worse people that ride on the “Christian wave” with the sole purpose of ripping others off. I am referring to businesses that are operated within the guidelines of the Christian faith, as expressed by Jesus: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Your neighbors in business terms would be then your customers, your partners / employees and yes, also your competitors. As long as you treat all of them fair and conduct your business in a honest way, this your business can be described as a Christian business, no matter if you sell bibles online or have a brick and mortar store for garden tools! But that is just my opionion ;-)

Flights to Islay

Islay, pronounced “Eyela” is the undisputed “Queen of the Hebrides”, an island group in Scotland. Being an island makes Islay also unfortunately difficult to reach. You can take the ferry or your own boat, or you can take one of the flights to Islay that are available. Regular airlines fly from Glasgow to the island and it takes only 40 minutes to reach the airport “Glenegedale”, which is in a 5 miles distance from Port Ellen. Alternatively you can also rent a charterflight or even arrive with your own small aircraft. Just be careful, the airport can be a bit tricky, in 1994 Prince Charles, an experienced pilot, made this experience as he overshot the runway. Nobody was hurt, grace God, but the plane in question was damaged.

Residual income opportunities

Residual income opportunities

Residual income opportunities are also called passive income opportunities.  In a nutshell that means that you are looking at a way of making money that:

Do need some initial investment of time and / or money, but then tend to produce income on, nearly auto-pilot with only a minimum requirement of ongoing maintenance work and costs.

Residual business opportunities exist on, as well as off line and are tailor made for people that are more of a sprinter then of a marathon mentality. You have to make one initial effort and then the investment of time, work and money continues to pay out over time. Some ways to achieve this are:

  • Renting something you own out to others.
  • Royalties for music, images or written work you have created.
  • Building niche websites.
  • Promoting products against commission.
  • Dividends and interests from investments.

Remember to always check the reputation of a product / company / website /service etc before parting with any of your hard-earned cash!
